Part 1-
A tall, etheral teenage girl walks through the doors, all eyes on her, thoughts of 'I wish I looked like her', or "I wish she was mine" ran through their heads. She walks to her locker, and gazes into the small mirror at her reflection. Her long, naturally blonde hair pulled into a bun, her sparkling saphire eyes, accented perfectly with eye shadow, her small, straight nose in perfect symetry to her heart shaped face.
A small, slightly overweight girl with mousey brown hair and brown eyes walks up to her. "Why w-was Jake angry this m-morning C-Carla?" she askes in her soft, gentle tone. Carla looks at the small girl, a look of annoyance and indifference crosses her face as she replies in a waspish tone "Wesley wanted to go out for coffee, Macey, and I simply couldn't blow off the most influential, not to mention, cutest boy in school, now could I?" Macey carefully schools her face to a simple smile and looks at her, "I-I guess not, Carla. I thought Jake was a nice boy, and you'd date through high school, is all." Carla laughs at this, a light, happy sound that does not fit her personality at all. "Oh Macey, honey, I was using Jake to get more popular, didn't you know that? To get to the very top, I need Wesley, and what I want, I get. Macey, Daddy gave me a new credit card this morning. Did you want to go shopping?" "No, I-I can't, s-sorry C-Carla, I have to babysit the twins again." She replies with a shake of her head. A look of disgust enters her eyes, "Ugh, Macey, why anyone would want to babysit the little monsters is beyond me! Daddy gives me money for free, so why would you do so for so little money? Can't you ask your parents?" The bell rings, and without waiting for an answer, she gives herself one last once-over, and heads to class.
In the cafeteria that afternoon, the two are in the lunch line, and always concious of her weight, Carla gets a small salad. Macey on the other hand, was always told to eat a well balanced meal. "Carla looks at her tray with revulsion and asks her, "Macey, how can you eat that?" Macey shrugs, and pays, and they sit down. After they finish, Macey spots Jake, and makes a beeline for him. "Jake, C-carla's mother wanted c-coffee this morning, and you know how often she's there. She's s-sorry she couldn't make it." Macey tries to cover for Carla again. Jake turns to look at her, sadness in his emerald green eyes as he replies "You don't have to cover for her, Macey. I'll get the answers out of her myself." Jake sooths an obviously nervous Macey in his smooth, deep voice. He makes his way to Carla, who is oblivious, deep in a conversation with Wesley. Hearing her side of the conversation, he gets angry. "Yes, Wes darling. I'll be there tonight, and no I won't bring Macey. Of course I broke up with Jake." Jake, in anger, grabs her cellphone and shuts it off. "I heard your conversation, Carla, when were you gonna break up with me? You know what? Save it, because I'm tired of trying to badger Macey into telling me where you are, or who your with, sneaking around behind my back. Go and ruin someone elses day!" At first she is shocked, but being Carla, quickly gets over it and thinks of how to be the best.
"Hey C-Carla!" Macey rushes to greet her friend, but with a delicate sniff and a flip of her hair, Macey is ignored. Macey tries to explain to her friend what had happened, but Carla refused to listen. She speeds up, hoping Macey will get the hint, and after a few more attempts, Macey gives up, and walks off. 'Step one', thought Carla with an evil but happy smile, getting Macey to leave her alone will definitely help me out. She grabs her book and heads to 1st period with Mr. Flick, her history teacher. "Today class we will be holding student council sign ups during lunch, and remember, today only!" He tells the class in his nasily voice.Carla thinks to herself, 'If I win president, people will practically worship the ground I walk on!' She smiles to herself, and takes out her paper and writes down notes for class.
That afternoon at lunch, Carla walks up to the sign up table, and grabs a paper. "What are you going to sign up for, Carla?" Mr. Flick asks. "Why, president of course! I want to bring the whole school together, and everyone will work together in peace and harmony." She gives a fake look of innocence and smiles at him. "Very admirable, Carla. I'm sure you will do wonderfly." He tells her in his annoying voice. After a few weeks of paying people to do her campaign for her, she wins president. She brags to Wesley, and they go out to celebrate her victory. She felt she was on top of the world for a few weeks.
Carla had taken a wrong turn that night on her way to meet up with Wes, and was hopelessly lost in the worst part of town. It was the oldest most run-down section of New York, the buildings were in great need of repair, bits of them missing, or rusted off. Trash cans lined the street, some alight with the yellow-orange glow of fire, making the shadows dance their haunting, seductive dance on the walls. Eyes followed her car, the blood-red gaze of the street bums gleemed maliciously as thoughts ran through their heads. Coming to a dead end, she gets out and enters the only building that seems open.
When she enters, the room is filled with crystals of all shapes and sizes, but covered with layers of dust and cobwebs. "H-hello? Is anyone here?" she asks, in a nervous, for once, tone of voice. "Back here, Carla." a serene, melodic voice calls out to her. Carla walks to the back, and asks "How do you know my name?" to the woman. The lady turns around, and she is surprised to note that the woman is incredibly lovely! Her long, raven tresses spill down her back over dark well tanned skin, and her dark eyes dance with inteligance. "I'd like to read your palm, dear. My crystal said you would be arriving." Suspiciously, she glares at the woman "I do not believe in such nonsense, so either give me directions, or I'll go find them elseware." She mumbles about crazy, stupid nutty old bats and their lame hoaxes. The woman hears this, and is angered greatly. "Carla Blackstone, you have insulted me, and my heritage, and for that, you shall pay dearly. I ask my Gypsy Ancestors to lend me their powers, I have need of them on this night." She then said a few words in a language Carla does not recognize. She points to Carla and says next "I see nothing in your soul save greed, hate, and a lust for power. I curse you to live forever like the ones you mock, unless you can learn compassion." Suddenly there is a bright flash, and when her vision clears, everything is gone...
