This is a D. Gray Man Fanfiction story. If you guys don't know anything about D. Gray Man this story is going to be pretty confusing, so I suggest getting some background information first before reading this. This is optional.
Warning: The main character is Fictional, and is the only character, in this chapter, that belongs to me. D. Gray Man, on the other hand does not belong to me.

Chapter 1
It hadn’t occurred to me how sheltered and comfortable I felt in a place I never thought I’d come back to, until that day after the seemingly endless battle, finally ended. When did these feelings even start? It must’ve been when that Allen Walker kid was attacked by Kanda when he was called out as an enemy by the door keeper. Something about that child was always so strangely comforting, and I hadn’t realized what it was until I saw that expression on his face.
I’d completely forgotten my purpose, my sins and why I ended up in a place like the Black Order in the first place. It was those golden eyes which replaced the silver ones that brought everything back at once to slap me in the face multiple times. The same person to make me forget, reminded me again a year later. How ironic.
--
“Lizzy!” My ‘name’ was prolonged by a certain overly happy girl. My eye twitched unintentionally at the nickname I hadn’t meant to respond to, as I turned to glare at the jumpy idiot. “You forgot this!” A black ball was placed into my right palm before it shock and expanded, wings intact. It buzzed around me annoyingly, as the unhealthy twitch came back to my right eye.
“Forgetting and throwing away are two different things” I turned on my heels and walked the opposite way, hoping for the black haired girl to be hurt by my attitude and just leave me alone, but that wasn’t going to happen. Lenalee was too stubborn to actually have the capability of being hurt by a…
I couldn’t even bring myself to say the word. I didn’t have to worry about that, since the overly cheerful annoyance did it for me.
“But golems are part of our family! You can’t throw away a family member!”
Yeah… That….
Since when had I allowed myself this closeness? This comfort of being safe and unaware? When was I able to sleep? When had I forgotten my sins…?
“Golems are machines and nothing more…” My strong voice had vanished as I continued, “Don’t put me in the same category as the rest of your puppets”
What was I even saying?
“Aw Lizzy, what’s wrong?” A mocking voice made the twitch seem like an understatement. I thought he was on a mission. I turned my head slightly to glare at a certain red head who grinned nonchalantly. His face was bandaged up in multiple places as usual, and his hammer was still in hand. He must’ve just gotten back from his mission. “Someone seems grumpier than usual! If that was even possible!” he laughed.
“Tch…”
A melodramatic gasped came from behind me as the idiot continued his mocking, “Her mind was taken over by Kanda’s! Oh n-“
“Will you SHUT UP?” The red head didn’t have a choice as my hand almost crushed his jaw. I sighed and let go of his face as a whimper escaping his mouth made me want to punch him to oblivion.
“So mean…” The drama queen wasn’t going to ever shut up was he? Dammit. “But…” I flinched. When did he get so close to my ear? “If something is bothering you, just come and tell me.” Lavi whispered, his voice finally taking on a serious tone before he wrapped his arm around Lenalee’s shoulders and dragged her away with him, laughing all the while.
I sighed; glaring at his back then began walking back to my room. It wasn’t like I was going to go to a Bookman for comfort. I’ve had some pretty bad experiences with them in my life, and even though Lavi was different in the way he was an annoying friend, he still couldn’t be trusted. No one in this organization could be. Not even Komui. Not with the amount of information I had, at least. I knew too much, and if the Vatican found out about who I really was, hell itself would rise.
No one should ever know. I wasn’t even supposed to get close enough to start calling these people my friends to begin with…
What Lavi already knew, though, was that what was bothering me was Allen Walker. The boy had been accused of having a Noah inside him. No, he wasn’t accused… it was a proven fact since he was able to control the Ark. I grit my teeth. How did I let something like this slip? I should’ve been the first to find out, yet I was one of the last. My senses were getting weaker with age it seemed.
The battle against the Noah wasn’t easy, especially if I were to keep my powers in check. As long as no one died, I wasn’t about to step in. The Earl had said some very alarming things to Cross that day. Hinting at my true identity, and I prayed to god Cross hadn’t had enough time to catch up on what the Earl had said. Otherwise I’d be in trouble. Cross was one of the most mischievous of them all, but even the womanizer can keep his mouth shut. Him hating the order came in handy too.
I sighed in defeat. I needed to have a talk with him, and I was sure he was on the same page. I changed my route by taking a right, leading to the hall of the room Cross was confined in. The guards noticed my approach and stood to their positions.
“This area is restricted, please leave immediately” One of the two door guards called out when I was close enough in hearing range.
I raised my right hand, palm towards the man, “Five minutes”
The man shook his head, looking down at me, “I’m sorry miss exorcist, but we were ordered to not allow anyone-“ The door behind the guard creaked open.
“She’s not going to eat me” an all too mocking voice came from behind the door with a chuckle to follow, “Besides, our conversations would be recorded, so I don’t see where the harm is”
That was a warning. I glared up at the Golem that followed me silently. Those things were tracking devices, for the church to keep an eye on us. We had to talk in code if this conversation was going to go anywhere. Not that anything could really get past that bastard Leverrier.
The guard fidgeted a little, not knowing who to take orders from, the church, or a scary general, inches away from him, possessing a gun that can never miss “B-but sir…”
“Elizabeth has nothing to hide, so I don’t see where the problem is in letting her have five minutes while still being watched, right?”
Those were mere words to the guards who nodded and stepped out of the way, but not to me. He knew something, and I knew I was in trouble. I stepped into the dimly lit room and followed the red haired general to the couch placed in the middle of the room.
“What can I do you for Elizabeth?” Cross lit a cigarette and smirked.
“I need to talk to you about the case” I had to be careful with my words.
“You say that as if you don’t already know” He wasn’t looking at me. He knew. He probably didn’t know anything in particular but he knew something was up.
He knew I had a connection with the Earl.
“How long have you known?” I gulped waiting for him to look at me. He never did. Was he that angry? Angry because I didn’t tell him anything and wasn’t even intending to? He sure was an expert at hiding it, as he gave me nothing but an expressionless face.
“How long have you been hiding?”
I flinched. No, this was just code. He couldn’t have actually… There was no way anyone actually knew what I was, unless…
“How much do you know Cross?” My eyes didn’t dare leave his face for any sign of change even though he never once looked my way.
Silence over whelmed the room. He was most likely bluffing, but you never knew with Cross. That man wasn’t ignorant and knew what he was doing. He could’ve intended on protecting me by not answering my question. And before I could lash out on him the door opened to reveal an apologetic guard asking me to leave.
I huffed in annoyance as I stood up and dusted myself for no other reason than habit. I didn’t even look at the man who’d raised me, until I grew out of calling him ‘Dad’ as I made my away out of the room. I turned my back to him and kept it turned. So much for not getting anyone involved in my mistakes, because that was all I seemed to be capable of doing. Causing trouble and mischief for everyone. But… that was my punishment wasn’t it? My punishment for surviving. My punishment for existing. The punishment of suffering for the rest of my too long life.
A piercing headache began to form and I decided if I were to go anywhere with some form of privacy I was to brutally murder that Golem. Just like the rest of the ones that were given to me. You’d think they’d give up on giving them to me. I turned around and glared at the damned buzzing annoyance. Grabbing hold of it and cursing some, I prepared myself to throw it across the hallway until it hit something and hopefully exploded. As I lifted my arm up and swung, I yelled, “Just leave me alone you annoying piece of-“ it was too late when I realized what I had just done. “K-Kanda…?”
The Golem had flown out of my grip and hit the nearest solid object it could, which just happened to be Kanda’s face. I gulped waiting for the silent man to burst out and possibly beat the living crap out of me.
“Wow Lizzy, I didn’t know you felt so strongly about Yuu!” Lavi laughed, possibly making the situation even worse. Kanda was probably just coming back from training and hoping to relax in his room while unnecessarily being harassed by Lavi on his way there.
Kanda’s nose was starting to turn red, and his furious eyes never left mine. I thought his eyes might fall out of their sockets from such intense, electrifying glaring. I courageously started towards the two men, my hands out in defense in case Kanda snapped. I noticed him twitching, as if holding back.
“K-Kanda, I’m-“
“Shut up!” I flinched from the sudden rage coming from an oxymoronic body. “Just leave me alone” He glared at Lavi, “Both of you!” Kanda paced angrily towards his room, leaving both of us stunned and frozen, staring after him.
A chuckle brought me back to reality, “Don’t worry about him”. A large arm covered my shoulders, “He’s grumpy because Mugen is going to take longer than expected to be fixed” the red head reassured.
“Don’t you have Leanlee to chase after…?” I sighed, slowly removing his arm from abround my shoulders.
“What happened in the Ark?”
My eyes widened as my head unintentionally snapped up to look at the source of the sudden question. How could he just ask such a straight forward question like that? We could get-
No… A Bookman wouldn’t be so reckless. Lavi may act like an idiot to poke fun at everyone, but he’s a sneaky brat. He knows what he wants, and how to get it. A true Bookman.
I tried to calm myself down, but the nervousness was overlapping itself as I noticed the Bookman Jr. watching me, studying my every action.
“Right…” I began, taking a deep, shaky breath in, which wasn’t helping my situation, “You weren’t there when Allen rebuilt it… or something…” Right. Make him think you don’t know, as much as possible. You were just there, an observer and nothing more. You were as scared for your life as everyone else was. Make him think that.
“You were with Cross and Lenalee. What did you see?”
Why was he asking such blunt questions? Where was he getting at? “I don’t really know, I was too scared to pay much attention Lavi… Why are you-“
“Hey, are you hungry? I know you didn’t eat dinner!” That all too well-done fake smile appeared on his face, as he grabbed hold of my arm and dragged me along with him to Jerry’s dining area. Changing the subject suddenly was his way of saying, ‘let’s go somewhere where we can actually talk’.
“L-Lavi! It’s one in the morning! Jerry isn’t even there!” I whined, squirming; trying to get out of his strong hold. His grip around my arm tightened, as if telling me to shut up.
“Don’t worry!” He laughed, not looking back at me, “I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if we don’t make a mess!”
“Lavi…” my voice came out in a whisper, “You’re hurting me…” I finally said defeated. I wasn’t going to pretend anymore around him, but I also wasn’t going to tell him anything.
Without a word, his hand loosened around my arm and slide down to hold on to my hand instead. I wasn’t about to protest, since I knew it was a fight I was going to lose. The idiot was stubborn, so I just went along with it until we reached the dining room. It was empty, except for a certain eating machine and his clingy ‘body guard’.
“Moyashi?” Lavi called out to Allen, not expecting him to be there. I was; the boy would probably eat in his sleep if he was able to, and I wouldn’t be surprised.
Allen turned around; scowling at the nickname Kanda had given him. “It’s Allen!” It was almost inaudible beneath all that food that was in his mouth. I couldn’t help but snicker. They were children after all. Lavi turned to give me a quick questioning look before letting go of my hand and walking towards the two men. Link and I greeted each other with a simple nod as I slipped in next to him, while Lavi sat next to Allen.
“Are you sure you should be eating all that at this hour, Moyashi?” Lavi eyed the mountain of food, horrified. It was kind of a hypocritical question since he dragged me here to ‘eat’.
“It’s Allen!!” Allen yelled at Lavi once again, this time swallowing the food in his mouth before speaking, which was greatly appreciated.
“I keep on telling him the same thing, but he won’t listen. It’s unhealthy for a growing boy to eat at this hour!” Link said in a matter of fact tone.
I looked over at the neglected vegetables, and sighed. It was true that I hadn’t eaten dinner, and for us parasite innocence holders, food dissolved like sugar in water, so we needed plenty of it to stay full, and keep up our energy. I reached for the vegetables and took possession of a carrot while getting a few stares. “What? I haven’t eaten dinner, okay?” I looked up at Allen, hopeful, “You don’t mind… right?”
A smile crossed my face as he shook his head, still a bit surprised. It was probably because I wasn’t the type to really do anything in front of people, which included eating. I usually took my food to my room and ate there. It was only a weird habit, nothing more. I never really was the type to interact with people anyway, so they should stop being surprised at everything I did. I bit down at the carrot, the taste sweet and satisfying. My mind kept drifting to Lavi’s question about the Ark as the three men went on with their conversation, and I devoured all the unwanted vegetables.
What everyone knows as what happened, was that in order to save everyone, Allen Walker was ordered by Cross to play a piano in some room he ended up in, and the Ark rebuilt itself when he did. What they also knew was that a Noah was inside Allen, waiting for an opportunity to take over him and attack.
What they didn’t know was how, why, and what was to come after. That’s where the Bookman Jr, and the general’s suspicions came in. I was there, and so was Lenalee, but even though Lenalee was marked as the possible ‘Heart’, she didn’t raise any suspicion of the situation we were in. The organization never really liked me to begin with, and I don’t blame them. Either way the feeling was mutual, and I would do anything to be away from this place. But I was condemned and now I was stuck in this hell. I wasn’t about to cause more problems by suddenly disappearing. The order could use me as a test, and torture subject as much as they wanted as long as these oblivious young exorcists got to live.
Time passed by and Lavi never got his chance at continuing his interrogation as we all went to our rooms and called it a night, but I knew it wasn’t the end of it, and Cross was going to come after me as well, that is until the incident that happened the next morning.
